Más que un menester crítico, me he propuesto, en estas notas sobre libros, revivir y remover, espumar y prolongar los temas sustantivos que el volumen trataba o sugería. Nunca he podido leer las páginas de un libro sin que por deliciosa repercusión se levantasen dentro de mí bandadas de pensamientos, cuyo vuelo diverso ha amenizado mi vida. En estos artículos, que ahora reúno bajo el título ESPÍRITU DE LA LETRA, he procurado capturar la ruta aérea de alguno de esos pájaros interiores.
More than a critical task, I have proposed myself, in these notes on books, to revive and stir, to skim and prolong the substantive themes that the volume treated or suggested. I have never been able to read the pages of a book without delicious repercussion raising within me flocks of thoughts, whose varied flight has enlivened my life. In these articles, which I now gather under the title SPIRIT OF THE LETTER, I have sought to capture the aerial route of some of those interior birds.
Più che un ufficio critico, mi sono proposto, in queste note su libri, di rivivere e rimuovere, spumare e prolungare i temi sostantivi che il volume trattava o suggeriva. Non ho mai potuto leggere le pagine di un libro senza che per deliziosa ripercussione si levassero dentro di me stormi di pensieri, il cui volo diverso ha allietato la mia vita. In questi articoli, che ora riunisco sotto il titolo SPIRITO DELLA LETTERA, ho procurato di catturare la rotta aerea di qualcuno di quegli uccelli interiori.
