Abstract
The digest gives only title and word count (238 words): no prose sample is available, so the content cannot be judged. The title suggests a note on public opinion and its current representatives, but this cannot be confirmed from the text.

Now then: exactly the same happens to the forces now triumphant, as we shall have occasion to see in the coming months. Can the surviving groups of the Dictatorship, which held it seven years in their hands without leaving a trace of fruitfulness, and still less after the death of the only one of those men who possessed a warm soul and good sense, namely General Primo de Rivera himself, seriously present themselves before the Spaniards as people who know what must be done with Spain? And with more vehement evidence must the same be said of the monarchists.
Since all this is a little absurd, I am forced from now on to repeat the same thing that I used to say to its governors from the very initiation of the Republic: that they erred if they believed that the electors had voted for them. Nor now have they voted for the triumphant candidates. They have voted their own griefs, their irritations, their endeavours, their imprecise desires, but not the monarchists, nor the dictatorial men, nor the C. E. D. A., nor the nebula of the agrarians. The deputies of the ‘right’ represent today, no doubt, a great portion of public opinion, just as those who began to govern in July 1931 represented an even greater volume of it. But public opinion, like the words of the sibyl, is always enigmatic, and one must know how to interpret it.
