In nuptias CAROLI EMMANUELIS invictissimi Sardiniae regis, ducis Sabaudiae, etc., et reginae augustissimae ELISABETHAE A LOTHARINGIA.

Clara seu bello referas trophaea,

Sen colas artes placidus quietas,

Mille te monstrant monunenta magnum

Inclyta regem.

Venit, ô ! festos geminate plausus ;

Venit optanti data diva terrae,

Blanda quae tandem populis revexit

Otia, venit.

Hujus adventu, fugiente bruma,

Omnis aprili via ridet herba ;

Protinus pagis bene feriatis

Exeunt laeti proceres, coloni ;

Obviam passim tibi corda currunt,

Aspicis ? Crebra crepitante flamma,

Ignis ut cunctas simulat figuras,

Ut fugat noctem, riguis ut aether

Depluit astris.

Audiunt colles, et opaca longe

Colla submittunt, trepidaeque circum

O Muse, you demand of me that I dedicate new songs to the king; therefore, inspire me with verses worthy of such a great monarch.

The terrible god of battle had sown discord among the peoples of Europe: throughout Italy, the sound of arms could be heard; while in some dark and gloomy recess, the sad peace could hear the furious turmoil stirred up by humans, and see the fields flooded with new waves of blood. From afar, it recognizes a hero consumed by valor—it is Charles, laden with glorious spoils. The goddess approaches him, sighing, and tries to soften his heart with her tears.

“Prince,” she said to him, “what charm do you find in the horror of carnage? Spare those defeated enemies; spare yourself, and no longer expose your sacred head to such great dangers. The cruel Mars has occupied you for too long. You have been entrusted with a rich harvest of rewards; it is time now for peace to receive your attention, and for you to devote your heart to softer sentiments. In exchange for this peace, the gods have destined for you a young and divine princess, descended from the blood of kings—illustrious through so many heroes as the illustrious House of Lorraine has produced—and who counts numerous heroes among her ancestors. Such a worthy reward is the fitting compensation for your royal virtues, your love for justice, the sanctity of your conduct, and that gentle humanity so inherent in your pure soul.”

The monarch yields to the exhortations of the gods. Hurry, kind princess; do not let the tears of a grieving sister and mother delay you. Let not these snow-covered mountains, whose peaks reach into the heavens, frighten you: their lofty summits will bend down to facilitate your journey.

Behold how brilliantly this charming wife is accompanied; grace surrounds her carriage, and her modest face is truly meant to please.

Nevertheless, the king eagerly listens to all the praises that his reputation brings him. He sets out, accompanied by a magnificent court. He is carried away by the impatience of his love. Just as the brilliant Phoebus extinguishes in the sky, with the intensity of its rays, the light of other stars; so too does this august prince shine forth amidst all his courtiers.

Charles, generous blood of heroes—what sublime harmonies, what majestic verses could I employ to sing dignously the virtues of your great soul and the courage of your valor? It will be by meditating on the noble deeds of your magnanimous ancestors, whose virtue made them worthy of glory; for you are pursuing that same path they took in order to attain it.

Whether you win the most glorious trophies in war, or whether in peace you cultivate the arts, thousands of magnificent monuments bear witness to the greatness of your reign.

But redouble your songs of joy; I see that divine queen arriving, whom heaven grants to our wishes. She comes—she is the one who has brought gentle pleasures among the peoples. Upon her approach, winter flees; all roads are adorned with tender grass; the fields shine with greenery and are covered in flowers. Immediately, masters and servants alike abandon their labor and rush forward, filled with joy. Royal bride, hearts from every direction fly toward you.

Observe how, amidst the torrential flames and their roaring noise, fire assumes all sorts of forms; watch as night flees away; behold this rain of stars that seems to fall from the sky.

The sound is heard in the mountains, rising far above their massive peaks; the surrounding pines tremble in surprise, and the echoes of the Alps amplify its resonance.

Live on, good king; pursue the longest and most illustrious career possible. Live likewise, worthy wife; may your descendants live forever and rule over Savoy.

At the wedding of CAROLI EMMANUELIS, the invincible King of Sardinia, Duke of Savoy, etc., and the most august Queen ELISABETH OF LOTHARINGIA.

Therefore, now I shall go, my muse, to the king.

Should one dedicate something anew?

Therefore, it is worthy of great celebration.

“Carmine regem.”

The peoples of Europe were in a state of frenzy.

God had kindled the flames of war;

The clatter of all those armors filled the air with noise.

Itala tellus.

An interim state of latency exists beneath the other.

Greater peace would bring happiness to mankind.

Audit, with its undanting grandeur, beholds the recent past.

Bloody fields.

“Cernit heroem procul aestuantem;”

For Carolum, the burden of loss is evident;

“The diva sighed and said, ‘And then, ’”

To bend, it attempts to yield.

“What gives you pleasure in armor?” he asked, “What is the source of your fear?”

For if it benefits the victims, it also benefits you, O prince;

Do not lose your head amidst the chaos of war.

No danger at all.

The fierce god Mavors seized control of me.

“Teque palmarum seges ampla ditat”;

Now, pursue peace more devoutly, with greater kindness.

Conceptualize the sense.

“Behold, the divine one upon the maiden.”

They have destined for you the prize of peace.

“Blood of kings, clear as that of Lothar.”

Root of the genus.

That is, the duty was merely sufficient.

Royal gifts; one single love, equal for all.

The sanctity of morals, as well as the piety of caste.

Hospita mentis.

The first principle of divine wisdom has been revealed.

Therefore, hasten, O generous maiden.

Neither sister nor will your tears grieve you any further.

Anxious mother.

Mountains are not whitened by snow.

From above the stars, terror arises.

If you also consider it from a high perspective.

The climax persists.

Cernis? Oh, what a splendid display of pomp.

Let us hunt! The young hares are now tender and easy to catch.

They are surrounded; the bride sits there, modest and serene.

Grace is upon the face.

Let him drink gold in abundance, for he has deserved it!

Magnificent hall with laticed ceilings.

“Eccce confestim volat inquieto.”

Enraptured by love.

What kind of rays are those that scan the heavens?

The common people of the stars are hidden in darkness.

Phœbus, the most glorious among all.

Lumine princeps.

Carole, a generous-hearted heroine.

Whether by song or by words that fill my ears, I shall express it.

Mentis excelsae possess titles of great distinction and are truly remarkable.

To speak of the heart.

Not even those who ponder the deeds of great ancestors.

Those whom virtue has sanctified through its power.

Art, in its essence, is nothing but a heaven, a pure expanse of sky.

My tendons were screaming in pain.

Clara shall refer to her beautiful trophies.

One should live a life of calmness and tranquility.

As a thousand witnesses attest to my greatness.

“Inclyta regem.”

Come, oh! the joyful, twin cheers of celebration;

“The chosen one of the goddess of the earth arrived.”

The one who was ultimately restored by the people.

Come here, Otia.

With this arrival, the fleeing mist dissipates.

In every April, the grass grows again.

With flowers blooming, they shine with a verdant glow.

Gramine campi.

Let every page be carefully crafted.

Let the happy ladies and citizens depart.

Obviously, your heart races throughout all these places.

Spousal authority.

Aspicis? Crebra crepitante flamma.

Ignis appears to shape all things simultaneously.

Let it flee through the night, swift as the ether.

It mourns among the stars.

They listen to the hills, and also to the distant, opaque expanse.

They submit with trembling hands and trembling feet.

“Against the pine trees again, once more those voices, ”

Alpibus Echo.

Live for a hundred years, oh king of bones, through every single year.

Thus, the goods of these spouses remain intact; live on, you all.

May the race live forever, and so too the Sabaudians.

“Imperet arvis.”

He offered it to the king, etc.
